Hi Noko. I haven’t been able to find any other sites to date, but then to be honest, I haven’t looked very hard… Let me know if you find something.

Cool site and nice selections. Its a pity that not many of our Mzansi DJs are playing mid-tempos. Do you guys know any overseas sites which have mid-tempos??

I found this in the cover of a Glen Lewis CD:
“It’s a uniquely South African sound that’s been around for over a decade and that’s one of the major building blocks in home-brewed kwaito…. Mid-Tempo is just about the simplest derivative of house you could think of: it simply involves spinning a house 45 at the slower speed of 33 rpm. But somehow this seemingly accidentally-discovered phenomenon became a craze on the local club scence, particularly in the townships, where it found a willing and harmonious partner in the loxion dance shuffle.”

Howzit Skabenga!
We can thank South African DJ’s Ignatius Motshwane “Iggy Smallz” & Glen Lewis for pioneering the mid-tempo sound. There are a number of mid-tempo CD’s available from Glen and other SA DJ’s. If you haven’t heard them yet, I’d recommend you start collecting, ‘cos they are wicked. The principle behind it, is to find your funkiest 45 rpm records and play ‘em at 33 rpm. And once you drop, you can’t stop

What is the deal with Mid-Tempo? Is it a 45rpm pitched down to 33Rpm? Either way I am loving it! First time I have come across this site and as a fellow South African (only living in London) it is like a breath of fresh air.

Thanks for your opinion Kirill. True, mid-tempo isn’t accepted by all house fans, but I find that it grows on you. Keep listening to it and try putting together some of your own mid-tempo: it’s good fun and a nice change of pace. There are some absolutely wicked mid-tempo mixes out there.

i think it’s too slow! this mix sounds great when it playing about 120bpm, but not less than 100bpm. it’s just my viewpoint
but good selection here…
respect.

Another victim of the mid-tempo groove! This mix has me hooked as well – I just can’t get those melodies out of my head.
